The year 2022 is here and we’re in for a treat regardless of which system we play on. PlayStation players will definitely have their hands full, and below are ten games that I look forward to the most, in no particular order I might add.
I am going to say that these are the ten PS5 games I look forward to, but that doesn’t mean they’re PS5 exclusive. It just means that will more than likely be my platform of choice for the below unless the game releases to Xbox Game Pass or something.
So let’s see which games I look forward to playing this year.
Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Upgrade
This is one game, for some reason, that I am really looking forward to playing on PlayStation. I don’t know why, I bought it on PC, and bugs/glitches aside I didn’t really enjoy the game. Maybe I will enjoy it on the PS5 more, who knows. We shall find out when CD Projekt Red (hopefully) releases the upgrade to Cyberpunk 2077 in the first half of this year (rumoured).
I already have bought the PS4 version of the game ready for the PS5 upgrade. So time will tell on how I enjoy it or not, but for some reason, I can’t wait to play it.
Horizon Forbidden West
How can you not be looking forward to this game? If you’ve played the first (Horizon Zero Dawn), you’ll know what I mean. If not, then why not? It’s one of the best games I have played on the PS4. Of course, if you don’t own a PlayStation you can play the first game on the PC, I highly recommend it.
As far as I am aware, Horizon Forbidden West will be exclusive to PlayStation consoles (PS4, PS5). However, going on recent games from PlayStation and them releasing on PC, it wouldn’t surprise me if this came to PC in a couple of years at most.
A Plague Tale: Requiem
A Plague Tale: Innocence saw the player take control of Amicia and Hugo in this action-adventure stealth game. Avoid guards who are hunting them both down and try to survive the grim story. A Plague Tale: Requiem will follow on from the first and we will see Amicia and Hugo take on more adventures in 2022. The first was a great game that had a real good change of pace at times, as well as some unexpected plot twists.
God of War Ragnarok
God of War (2018) was an absolute classic. I managed to get the platinum trophy for this game after spending a good 7 hours on a boss fight, and this boss wasn’t even a main story boss! The story itself is fantastic. The game sees players follow Kratos and his son Atreus (Boy!) in their journey to find out what the hell is going on and why they have been attacked.
God of War Ragnarok is a direct follow-on from the 2018 smash hit. Make sure you have played that before GoW Ragnarok. Fortunately, you can play God of War (2018) on PS4, PS5, and now PC too.
Oxenfree II: Lost Signals
Oxenfree was a hidden gem. I didn’t really know much about it until Ben told me. It had me hooked when I played it. It is labeled as a “supernatural mystery graphic adventure game” and was released in January 2016, six years ago! If you’ve not played Oxenfree, it regularly pops up on offer on Steam and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is set five years after the original and sees the player go to Camena. Camena is the hometown of Riley, a new character in the world of Oxenfree.
Sniper Elite 5
These games are just pure fun. Sniper Elite 4 was the first (I think) to introduce a more of an open-world aspect. Run around going mad shooting everyone on sight or be a lot more stealthy and earn those headshots and testicle shots. Yes, testicle shots. If you’ve not played a Sniper Elite game and you like the sound of this, then you need to play them.
Sniper Elite 5 see’s crack shot sniper Karl Fairburne heading to France to uncover Project Kraken in 1944. This will also be the first in the Sniper Elite series to release since the launch of the now current-gen consoles. Let’s hope Rebellion pushes the consoles to their limits!
Elden Ring
There’s something about games that FromSoftware releases. I think it’s just the fact of the pure challenge of their games. If you play them patiently, they’re not as hard as people make out. Yes, Dark Souls games are harder than your average game, but that’s because they require more skill and patience. Elden Ring will continue that trend and will see some people going through controllers like slices of bread.
The interesting thing about Elden Ring is George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones) provided materials for the setting of the game. On a final note, good luck players, you’ll need it.
Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga
These are another favourite of mine, Lego games are brilliant. The latest entry into the Lego Star Wars franchise will be a bit different from what we’re used to. This time around it will be a third-person camera game that will be set across all nine of the main Star Wars movies. So it will be fair to say this game will more than likely be massive.
Players will have access to hundreds of playable minifigures in the game, as well as players being able to visit many of the iconic settings of the movie franchise.
Tropico 6
Man, I love games like Tropico. Build up your colony or city until it all falls down around you and you have no idea what happened. Hopefully, Tropico 6 continues that trend when it launches on PlayStation this year. Tropico 6 originally launched in 2019 for the PC.
Prove yourself as El Presidente and shape the fate of your island of Tropico.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
Personally, I love Final Fantasy games. I will admit I’ve not played them all, however, the ones I have played I absolutely loved. I remember playing Final Fantasy VII and VIII numerous times on the original PlayStation when they launched. They were so ahead of their time when they launched.
Of course, Square Enix tries to keep with that. In my opinion, they do a fantastic job with Final Fantasy games even now. This leads us on to Stranger of Paradise. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a spin-off that’s being developed by Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Nioh) and Koei Tecmo Games (Project Zero: Maiden of Blackwater). This game is an action role-playing game that is set in an alternate universe retelling of the original Final Fantasy that was released for the Famicom.
So there are the ten games I am looking forward to playing in 2022, hopefully. Let us know down in the comments which games you’re looking forward to playing this year. Regardless of platform or even which year it was released! You can check out similar posts to this for example Ben’s five Nintendo Switch games he is looking forward to playing.
