Even in 2021, Gameboy games are still wanted. There’s a certain nostalgia over playing that handheld device that hopefully will never go away. And if you still have one kicking about, you can still get games for it. It’s not a completely dead console thanks to dedicated fans keeping it alive. Now,  thanks to Kickstarter, a drone racing game has reached its funding goal with loads of time to spare. The game – VelociRush Time Trials.

What is VelociRush Drone Racing

It’s drone racing over 27 courses set across 3 themed locations.

•       Racing through the forest dodging trees and feeling like a pod racer.
•       Going underground, join the racers between the cars, but mind the paint!
•       Only the best of the best get invited to fly in the city streets.

As you’d expect, each race has a 1st 2nd and 3rd place time to beat to get your name on the scoreboard.

Once you qualify, you unlock the ultimate power of 6s and really rip the track with much faster action.

There’s also full in-game training to ensure you know how to fly the tracks. Showing you how each of the track elements works and getting you ready to fly.

What do you get

Providing all goes to plan, you should actually get a decent amount for a£50 pledge for a physical cartridge. In your package, you will receive:

• A Gameboy cartridge with the game on.
• A digital copy of the game ROM
• A protective case for the game
• A true to original game box
• Full-colour manual
• Tray insert
• Sticker sheet

If you have no hardware to play it on, you can pledge £160 for the option for a fully tested and upgraded Gameboy (either original DMG, Pocket or Colour Gameboy) with IPS screen.

If you want just the Gameboy cartridge though without the box, you can do it for a £35 pledge.

The Kickstarter

After 6 months of trying to create a fair but challenging environment to race drones on the Gameboy, plus another 6 for development, the Kickstarter was born. VelociRush – Time Trials, the only Drone racing game on the Gameboy to date and is ready to be shared with the world. The physical release adds another dimension to this that just makes it special. This is definitely one to keep an eye on, and who knows, if this works out as planned there could be more Gameboy games on the horizon!
