I didn’t think I would hear that name again… Arkanoid. Wow, that’s a throwback. Anyway, Arkanoid Eternal Battle now has a confirmed release date. Players on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series consoles, and Nintendo Switch can look forward to the game launching on October 27th, 2022.
Arkanoid… Battle Royale? What?
Microids have today unveiled the details of the latest in the Arkanoid series of games. This one has a massive twist though, it has a unique cross-play Battle Royale mode which can be seen in the trailer below. Yes, Arkanoid and Battle Royale. Interesting mix.
Arkanoid Eternal Battle invites players old and new to play the iconic brick breaker with a fully modernised and revamped version. You will be able to compete online against up to 25 players in the Eternal Battle mode. Naturally, it’s a race to get the highest score, and the winner is the last player standing.
It has been confirmed that players will have infinite lives. However, each time you lose the energy ball, your score will decrease by 10%. During regular intervals, the players with the lowest score will be eliminated from the game. There will be some saving graces to help you though, players can take advantage of some signature Arkanoid special powers. There will be an assortment of abilities depending on your position in the race. If you use it at the right time, you could have a complete game changer that will take you from elimination to a stronger position.
Here are some of the special powers you can use:
- Glitching your opponents’ screen to obstruct their vision for a few seconds
- Temporarily reducing the size of your opponents’ ReVaus (ship) down 50%
- Speeding up your enemies’ energy ball, making it harder to catch during a limited time
When only 4 players remain, Eternal Battle will enter the final stage. The final stage consists of players taking on DOH himself, hit him as many times as you can to score some awesome extra points pushing you closer to victory. Every 45 seconds, DOH will eliminate the player with the lowest score. The pressure is on until the end of the match!
Key Game Modes in Arkanoid Eternal Battle
- Retro: Teleport yourself in an old-school arcade parlor back in 1986 and enjoy the original game as if you were there!
- Neo: This solo mode expands on the classic gameplay with brand-new levels, a modern and stylish art direction & sounds as well as new unique blocks, bonuses and effects!
- Versus: Play locally with 2 to 4 players on the same screen!
- Eternal Battle: For the very first time, 25 players can challenge each other online in an exclusive Battle Royale mode! Use your power ups to gain advantage and aim at the top score to be the last one standing and win the game!
