Nine days! That’s right, just nine days until we can get our hands on LEGO 2K Drive. It looks like pure barrels of fun, as usual with LEGO games. The game is being developed by Visual Concepts (NBA 2K23, WWE 2K23) and of course, is published by 2K Games (The Quarry, Borderlands 3). This game will launch on May 19th 2023 on PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Build Your Dream Vehicle
LEGO 2K Drive brings players to a vast and open world where they can build their dream vehicles from the family favourite construction bricks. You’ll be able to drive anywhere whilst becoming a LEGO racing legend. Below is a closer look at what’s to come in the world of Bricklandia.
The game will have four modes for you to explore all of which will see you explore the open world and take part in thrilling races.
- Story – You can play solo or split-screen co-op in this mode. A journey from a rookie racer to a famous champion as you compete against a series of charismatic rivals. With each victory, you will work your way up the ranks to take on the infamous road villain Shadow Z.
- Cup Series – This is the Grand Prix experience in LEGO form! This mode features multiple tracks back-to-back. Score points after each race based on your position to get that top spot on the podium. There is a Grand Brix Cup Series for every biome in Bricklandia.
- Race – Want to get straight into the fun as fast as you can? This is the mode for you. You can choose any course and any license class level to start driving right away.
- Minigames – This mode has unique objectives that are not about crossing a finish line or racing as fast as you can. Defend Minigames will see you smash a wave of marching robots to protect objectives. Rescue Minigames will get hectic as you pick up helpless townspeople and battle groups of roaming baddies.
Crossplay and Play Together
This is for those of you who love to play games with your friends, whether they’re on the couch next to you or on the other side of the world.
- Local Play / Splitscreen – This is available on all platforms and supports a two-player split screen. On the Nintendo Switch, two players can link up for Local Play using two Nintendo Switch consoles on the same wireless connection.
- Play with Friends Online – You will be able to party up and play via crossplay on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games and Steam. You will be able to play with up to six players when playing Shared World.
- Play with Everyone Online – Exactly as it sounds, see how you stack up against racers worldwide. You can play crossplay in this mode and you will be matched up with other racers similar to your skill level. There will not be any communication with other players which will help with keeping it a welcoming environment for all the family.
Customisation and Sharing
In LEGO 2K Drive players have access to the Garage which is where they will build and modify their cars. Make the vehicle of your dreams with all the power of the Garage. You will be able to customise every brick from nose to tail. Straight off the bat you’ll have access to hundreds of bricks to build with. These are sorted by type and category and there is over 1,000 unique LEGO pieces available over the course of the adventure.
Each vehicle has its own stats. Top speed, Acceleration, Handling, Health, Melee Power, and Weight. The more bricks, the heavier your vehicle which then means it’ll be put into one of six weight classes.
There will be tons of options for you to customise your build. So it’ll be entirely down to you, the player, on how your car performs on the track.
