The Game – A love letter to retro anime and 80s Sci-Fi.

Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is a visual novel adventure game that follows the classic PC-9800 style. Developed by Space Colony Studios, the game has a vintage green screen aesthetic and aims to create a game that is accurate to the era, from the text to the visual effects. As players embark on a journey with the Jovian patrol ship into the dark expanse of space, they will feel like they are in an adventure straight out of an 80s Sci-Fi movie as they solve the mystery that unfolds before them.

The Gameplay – Investigate. Interact. Analyse. Advance.

Using classic point-and-click adventure mechanics, you can explore different areas on the ship. Closely examine the beautifully crafted backgrounds, and engage in conversations with various crew members on board. To uncover important clues or deceitful intentions, you must pay attention to the characters’ dialogues. You need to be alert and keep an eye out for interactive elements and key objects in the backgrounds that can help you progress through the story.

The Characters – Get on board with the crew of the Gun-Dog!

All stories revolve around people, and The Gun-Dog is no exception. The characters in this story are so charming and charismatic that they convinced the team at Astrolabe Games to become the publisher. From the elegant yet aloof Captain Bartermews, to the bubbly Lieutenant Commander Cassandra Quinn, to the assertive and dominating Chief Mackenzie Cathays, The Gun-Dog boasts a diverse cast of characters for you to meet. Each crew member has a unique personality, role, and backstory. Spend time getting to know them and their individual quirks. Decide whether to collaborate with them or go against them to uncover the mystery at the heart of the story.

The Place – Adventure in an entirely explorable ship!

In the first instalment of the “Stories from Sol” series, the Jovian patrol ship Gun-Dog serves as the main stage for the game’s story as it heads into deep space. The creators have exhaustively described the ship with rich and evocative details of its various areas, including the constant rumble of the engine room, the bustle of the bridge, and the silence of space. They have meticulously designed and animated an extensive range of scenes in detail to deliver an immersive experience. The ship also features “Armoured Frames”, mechanised, human-shaped weapons of war inspired by the best that anime has to offer.

Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog will be digitally released this winter for PlayStation®5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The game will also have a special boxed Starship Edition for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in Europe.
