Edifier G2000

Edifier G2000 Speakers Review

Welcome to my review of the Edifier G2000 desktop speakers. These were kindly sent to me for the purpose of this review, and I must say, they surprised me, a lot.

The G2000 come in a choice of two different colours to suit your setup requirements. There is black, and white. I was sent the white option for my review.

Continue reading to find out why I thought these smaller speakers sounded so great. You can also read our previous hardware reviews when you’re done here.

The Hardware

Inside of the box, we have the usual you’d expect with speakers, the user guides and warranty card, a power cable, a 3.5mm cable, there is also a USB A to USB A cable to connect the speakers to say, your PC or laptop.

So, as you may have guessed already, these speakers support aux input via the 3.5mm jack. They also support audio via Bluetooth and USB. This means you can connect up your phone and listen to Spotify through the Bluetooth option, for example. USB allows you to plug the speakers directly into your PC for the best possible sound quality as USB mode has its own sound card built into the speakers.

Not only do we have those options, we also have RGB on these speakers. You may be thinking “Oh here we go again”… But trust me, it’s quite tasteful and actually lights up a desk nicely at nighttime. There are 12 lighting effects to choose from

I opted to keep the lights set as the colour that reminds me somewhat of an icy blue as this suits my setup nicely. The colour of the lights can easily be changed, as well as the mode, thanks to a dedicated button on the side of the right speaker. The lights can also be fully turned off should you not require/want this.

Edifier G2000

Personally, I love the white colourway compared to the black as I feel the lights have more impact with the white speakers.

All of the controls for the speakers are situated on the right speaker. There is a power/input change button, a volume shifter which clicks up or down for the volume, and of course the lighting button.

Be Warned!

I will say, be warned when you first turn these on. When turning them on the speakers let out what I can only describe as an engine revving up. Powering the speakers’ down sounds like a robot going offline, kind of. Either way, when I first turned them on, I did not expect this. I almost literally shit my pants when they fired up to a fairly loud “VRROOOOOM” that filled my living room nicely. The sound quality truly is excellent with the G2000. I found the quality of sound to be better on the USB mode compared to 3.5mm. But this would make sense as we have a digital sound card for USB whereas 3.5mm is analogue. Bluetooth also sounds pretty impressive.

I feel that I could hear all levels of sound with these speakers. The bass is also very acceptable from them and gives you some nice sounding thuds and thumps when playing games. They sound brilliant especially seems they are only 8 watts each.

Conclusions

The Edifier G2000 actually surpassed all expectations I had of such a small set of speakers. They sound absolutely fantastic, especially when connected via USB to your device. You can buy a subwoofer and connect to the G2000, Edifier have their own and that’s the Edifier T5. However, unless you really want some super thumping bass, I’d say the Edifier G2000 are actually a great set of 2.0 speakers as they are.

I would say that the only flaw with the speakers is that you can only have one active input at a time. Aux, USB, or Bluetooth. My previous speakers would allow all inputs to be active at once. But we can’t have everything and as they are, the G2000 are a great addition to any desk.

I score the Edifier G2000 a 9/10.
