Edifier R1280DB

Edifier R1280DB Review

Welcome to my review of the Edifier R1280DB Active Bookshelf Speakers with Bluetooth. Of course, these are made by Edifier and pack a whole slew of inputs.

Big Noise, Little Box

So how will the Edifier R1280DB Active Bookshelf Speakers perform in my setup? Continue reading to find out. You can also read our other reviews here.

The Hardware

In the box, you will receive both of the speakers (duh), the remote control, a 3.5mm RCA cable, an RCA cable, an optical cable, and a small user manual. They are very well packaged and are definitely going to arrive on your doorstep in perfect condition, even if Hermes Evri gets ahold of them. I really wish people would stop using that courier service.

Lots of goodies

Anyway, the speakers are very well made, with a nice wooden finish and removable covers. The chosen wood for these speakers is MDF, this helps minimise acoustic resonance as well as keep the price point as low as possible. One thing I will say is at the price point you pay (~£130 at the time of writing) they are phenomenal.

Design and Functionality

I personally love the look of the Edifier R1280DB speakers. They look very clean with curved edges on each of the four sides. They also look very clean with or without the front cover as you can see below. The colour I was provided is a pretty close match to my desk so it is all very aesthetically pleasing to me.

Good looking speakers.

The speakers also have a calibrated flared front-facing bass reflect port. All in all the speakers have a total output of 42W RMS.

Connection and Software

At the back of the right (active) speaker, there is a power switch and connection for the left (passive) speaker. There are many connections on the rear of the speakers that will allow four different inputs into your speakers. These are Line in 1 and 2 which are analog connections and are your red and white RCA connections for inputs from your PC via a 3.5mm to a 2-pin RCA cable, for example. There is also optical input and a coaxial input which are both digital connections.

As mentioned above, you can also connect to the speakers via Bluetooth. This allows you to connect up your mobile phone (or other Bluetooth audio device) and play music through the R1280DBs. Please note, that the R1280DBs only allow one input at a time, for example, you could not have a TV and a Bluetooth connection playing audio through the speakers at the same time.

Lots of holes for… cables.

As these are active bookshelf speakers, there is no need for an app. Everything you need quick access to is on the wireless remote control. Of course, should you wish to adjust the treble or bass, there are some adjustable knobs on the side. There is also a volume adjuster on the side, but you can also adjust the volume on the remote.

Conclusions

The Edifier R1280DB Active Bookshelf Speakers are absolutely brilliant. They provide a very nice and clean-sounding audio experience, that also packs a very heavy bassy punch when tweaked to your liking. This will make you wetter than a stamp licker at Christmas time. If you wish to read more about these speakers you can visit the official Edifier website for more information.

I give the Edifier R1280DB a score of 10/10.
