SoulsLike. That feels like a genre that gets thrown around quite a lot these days to try and attract fans of the huge games like Elden Ring to a game. However, that is not the case with Deathbound. But, it looks really good. The game has been revealed to launch on August 8th on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is being brought to us by Tate Multimedia and Trialforge Studio. It has also been announced that the game will cost $29.99/€29.99.
A SoulsLike With A Twist
But, Deathbound has a twist that most SoulsLike games do not have. The game is being called a dynamic single-player party-based SoulsLike. Essentially, this means that you will dynamically use a 4-hero party system that will allow you to transform between characters mid-combat.
Sounds very interesting to me. This could be the kryptonite to that dreaded “You Died” text. Just imagine you’re just about to receive a death blow to your character… Bam! swap out to the next hero and continue the fight. Now, it might not be that easy, but we’ll find out soon enough when the game launches in a few weeks.
Each hero will possess their own combat techniques, skills, and backstory. It’s said that your actions will lead to different outcomes and status effects. For example, if you align characters from the Church of Death with the Cult of Life, it will cause conflict resulting in consequential combat effects. Why? Because those two factions oppose each other within the vessel. Sounds like a very interesting twist as you’ll have to plan it out properly.
Even with their differences, the fallen must unite in combat. Players will charge a shared sync meter during battles. Once this is charged, you will be able to unleash a devastating “Morphstrike”. This will combine the party’s strength which is crucial for overcoming deadly adversaries.
