Edifier W830NB

Edifier W830NB Review

Welcome to my review of the Edifier W830NB over-ear Bluetooth headphones. This isn’t my first rodeo with Edifier hardware. However, the Edifier W830NB is the latest in a long line of Bluetooth headphones that, in my experience, are well worth the money.

At the time of writing, you can purchase the W830NB for around £80. I know I’ve already said Edifier hardware is worth the money, but continue reading to find out why.

The Hardware

So, of course, in the box we have the headphones. We also have a charging cable and some of the usual leaflets, warranty booklet, quick start guide, etc. You can charge the headphones via the USB-C port just like all other modern sets of headphones/earbuds.

Whilst I am the topic of charging, the battery will last you approximately 94 hours on a single charge with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) disabled. That is very impressive, especially as it only takes 1.5 hours to fully charge. Seriously, that’s just under four days straight of usage. Obviously, if you enable ANC, or use ambience mode, this will drain the battery quicker. If you’re not aware what ambience mode is, it’s basically a setting that lets you hear the music and the outside world as clearly as possible.

The hybrid active noise cancelling gives up to -45Db depth. This basically means you can block out a lot of unwanted background noise when using Active Noise Cancellation. It blocks sound so well because it uses the built in mics to help block out the noise.

The sound quality is fantastic on the W830NB which I expect nothing else from Edifier at this point. They offer an outstanding quality of sound and provide a good level of bass without punching your eardrums out.

The microphone’s quality is also very good. They use built-in AI noise cancelling technology that helps keep your voice as clear as possible in your calls. It works really well, and just works. You don’t need to prat about with any settings in the Edifier Connex app.

However, what you can play around with in the app are various modes for your headphones. You can change the equaliser settings and set a custom EQ in the app to tune the music/sound just how you like it. Also, you can change the modes using the buttons on the headphones, so you can easily switch up between ANC On, Off, and Ambience mode. You can also easily enable Game Mode on the headphones, which will help bring the latency down to as low as 0.08s. So in reality, essentially instantaneously.

If you like your music to be as clear as possible, then you’ll be pleased to know that the Edifier W830NB can support Hi-Res audio and has achieved a Hi-Res Audio Wireless Certification.

Another cool feature is that these headphones support multipoint connection. We’re seeing this a lot more in newer hardware. What this means is that you can connect them to two devices at once. In an example, you could connect them to your Steam Deck for games and your mobile phone for music. There is also another handy thing with these, and that’s that you can somewhat fold the cups into the area between the headband. This means they will be smaller to store in your bag for travelling. You can see this in the picture above.

So rounding up my thoughts, you probably won’t get much better than the Edifier W830NB in the region of ~£80.

Conclusions

These are better than the previous over-ear headphones from Edifier that I have reviewed. As always, Edifier seems to knock it out of the park with its sound quality versus hardware cost. I genuinely don’t know how they do it, every single time.

The W830NB give a reliable pair of headphones at a very affordable price. The mega-long battery life is brilliant and

I give the Edifier W830NB a score of 10/10.
