The SoundPeats Air series is one of the brand’s most popular headphone models in an already impressive lineup of audio devices. The SoundPeats Air5 is the newest offering in this series, which features some new enhancements and improvements that make them a pretty tasty option this Black Friday if you’re looking for some new earphones. These semi-in-ear true wireless earphones promise high-quality sound, advanced features, and a comfortable fit.
The Air5 is equipped with large 13mm dynamic drivers for each earbud, utilizing a triple bio-diaphragm design. Additionally, they come with six microphones featuring AI noise cancellation for both phone calls and active noise cancellation. They have a waterproof design and boast modern Bluetooth v5.4, along with a Qualcomm chip that supports the aptX codec for improved audio quality. Delightful.
Design & Comfort
The SoundPeats Air5 earphones are sleek and modern, available in black. white, beige, and purple. They offer a semi-in-ear fit that is comfortable for extended wear. Although they may not feel as secure as some others thanks to their form factor. Walking in the cold with a hat on, for example, makes these feel like they’re going to drop to the floor the moment your hat is removed. Without a hat, though, they hold in your ears quite comfortably, and there’s little fear of them falling out without vigorously shaking your head or knocking them a bit.
You might forget that you have them in, though, as that’s the key part of the Air range. They’re super lightweight, with each earbud weighing just 3.8 grams. Perfect for if you want to sit at your desk all day with earphones in.
The build quality is solid, with a smooth plastic finish that resists scratches effectively. They look good without breaking any new boundaries and feature the SoundPeats logo in their classic stylistic way. My favourite part of the design, though, is how they fit into the case. At first glance, I wasn’t too sure about the case design. But there’s something really satisfying about how the earphones slot snap into place. And I actually enjoy that the case is a little different from all the other SoundPeats earphones I have, as I can easily identify which ones these are. It’s grown on me pretty quickly, and I like it now.
Additionally, an IPX5 waterproof rating, lightweight earpieces, and touch-sensitive controls enhance the overall comfort and ease of use.
Sound Playback
SoundPeats has equipped the Air5 with 13mm dynamic drivers and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound technology, ensuring a rich and dynamic audio experience. The bass is deep and palpable, the midrange is forward and clean, and the treble is crisp with good extension. The soundstage is airy and wide, providing an immersive listening experience. The earphones also support aptX Lossless Audio, enhancing the overall sound quality.
The Air5 earphones come packed with features, including Bluetooth 5.4, multipoint connectivity, and active noise cancellation (ANC). The ANC is effective, though not as powerful as some higher-end models. But it is very impressive considering the open-ear design. You’d expect a lot more sound to leak through than it does. They’ll never be perfect when it comes to ANC, as you’re pretty limited by the style, but they still do a stellar job. The only time I had a real issue was when there was a lot of heavy traffic right next to where I was walking. These are designed more for people who want that ANC but with a little extra awareness of their surroundings, which is where they excel.
The Air5 comes equipped with three high-quality microphones designed to deliver exceptional audio clarity. These microphones incorporate advanced AI noise reduction technology, which effectively minimises background sounds, ensuring that your voice is clear and distinct during phone calls and business meetings. Additionally, the built-in wind noise reduction feature further enhances performance in outdoor settings. It’s better for sounds, but still a bit too noisy for phone calls. Although that’s not a problem limited to these. I just live in a windy, high-traffic area.
Battery life is a mixed bag with the Air5. While SoundPeats advertises up to 6 hours of playtime on a single charge, real-world usage with ANC and aptX enabled reduces this to around 3.5 to 4 hours. Which still isn’t bad considering the ANC works hard to help as best as it can. The charging case provides an additional 30 hours of battery life, which is fairly standard for the price range of this model.

Conclusion

Whilst the battery life could be improved, the sound quality and advanced features position them as a strong competitor in the mid-range earbud market. If you’re in search of versatile earphones that offer excellent sound and a comfortable fit, the SoundPeats Air5 are definitely worth considering.
I would suggest that you download the SoundPeats app and test out the equaliser, though, and the ANC mode. Find what works for you depending on where you’re using them. Plus it’s essential for enabling ANC anyway.
