SoundPeats Capsule 3 Pro Review

I’m on a bit of a SoundPeats journey to find something that’ll potentially replace my daily drivers or offer me something different when listening to music as I type, and next in line is the SoundPeats Capsule 3 Pro. If you know anything about SoundPeats, then you’ll know it’s all about quality at a very reasonable price. And if you don’t know anything about SoundPeats, then they’re all about quality at a very reasonable price.

The SoundPeats Capsule 3 Pro are a wireless earbud that claims to offer high-quality sound, noise cancellation, and long battery life. But does it live up to its promises?

Design & Comfort

The design of the Capsule 3 Pro is pretty sleek. There’s nothing groundbreaking here, which isn’t a bad thing because where else can we really go with earbuds? If a design works, there’s no need to really change it. If you took their shape profile and stood it next to the Apple AirPods Pro, they’d be pretty similar. The earbuds feature rubber tips that fit snugly into the ear canal to provide excellent sound isolation, with a compact stem. What makes these earbuds different to some others, though, is the bronze accent pieces alongside the matte black finish. It adds a little something something to make them stand out.

They come with some extra rubber tips for those unfortunate enough to not have standard-sized ear holes and therefore require a better fit. I’ll never know what it’s like having to change the tips, so I can only use the standard ones that are already on the earbuds and they slot in nicely. They’re comfortable and soft – so much so, that I barely register that I’m actually wearing something that’s fitted snuggly in my ear.

The earbuds are rated IPX5, making them resistant to sweat and splashes but not suitable for submersion. You can walk in the rain a bit, but you can’t go swimming with them.

The charging case is fairly compact and easy to carry, with a USB-C port and four LED indicators. It’s larger than my Galaxy Buds Pro case, but it’s not offensively so. There’s plenty of room for a battery that offers 43 hours of additional playback, which is mighty impressive. And something that I really appreciate is the matte black finish to it. The one thing I really didn’t like about the SoundPEATS Air4 Lite was the charging case because of how it felt and looked. This case feels and looks great. It’s not a big thing, but if you’re putting Pro in the title of your product, then I also expect the case to be nice, which it thankfully is.

The earbuds also come in white, with a clear-looking accent piece.

SoundPeats App

If you want to get the best out of the Capsule 3 Pro’s, then you’ll need the SoundPeats app. The app is okay. It has a very basic UI, where one of the three options is a shortcut to buying more SoundPeats products. It does what you need it to, though.

You can check the battery level of each earbud easily on the home tab, which is very helpful. You can access a menu by sliding out from the left, where you can update the firmware. I was prompted to update the firmware for my earbuds almost immediately, but I have no complaints about it since it’s great when a company is committed to improving their products.

The preset equalizers work well and meet expectations. It’s great that you can adjust them to suit your preferences and even create your own profiles. I wish more earbuds would offer this feature.

However, the app has one major flaw – you can’t customize the touch controls, and it doesn’t provide a clear layout for what the touch controls are. Although the booklet that comes with the earbuds has this information, losing it means you’ll have to rely on memory or download the PDF from the website. I’m not one for touch controls on earbuds so I like to disable them, so it’s a bit disappointing that this can’t be done. I’ve regularly found that putting the right earbud in drastically increases the volume thanks to the touch controls. Maybe it’s how I handle them, but that wouldn’t be a problem if I could disable touch controls. I can control what I need to do through my phone without having to remember how or where I need to touch a specific earbud. If I had one recommendation for a future update, it’d be this.

Update – my SoundPeats app has updated, and there’s an option to disable touch controls. Huzah!

Calls, Outside and Sound Playback

I was most impressed by the sound quality of the Capsule3 Pro. Most budget earbuds I’ve used in the past have had some poor sound quality, particularly when it comes to bass. Or they distort at higher volumes or when playing higher frequencies, resulting in a hissing or tinny sound.

The Capsule3 Pro earbuds have a slightly stronger bass than the standard version, but it is not overpowering. The volume is also pretty good as I never had to raise it too high, never once having my phone bitching at me about the volume being too loud and how I need to protect my ears.

Podcasts were a delight to listen to, thanks to the earbuds’ ability to produce clear and crisp voices. That needs to be pointed out because I’ve not had to skip back to relisten to a part once during my week of testing.

I am amazed by the microphone’s exceptional quality. The people I spoke with during my calls could not even tell that I was using earbuds; they thought I had the phone right next to my ear – I asked, since I wanted to know. Moreover, the sound quality on my end was outstanding. The Capsule3 Pro earbuds have genuinely exceeded my expectations when it came to calls.

The ANC is impressive for the price. I’ve always loved the satisfying noise change when turning it on, and it’s the same with these. While music played, I couldn’t hear much else, which is precisely what you want.

I found the transparency mode to be quite helpful. Initially, I thought I would only use the active noise cancellation (ANC) feature, but that wasn’t the case. While walking to work, there are times when it’s difficult to see oncoming traffic while crossing certain roads. So, being able to hear the surrounding sounds while listening to music was a lifesaver. My only complaint is that there’s no way to adjust the amount of outside sound that comes in, but it’s not a major issue.

Conclusion

The Capsule 3 Pro is a great choice for anyone looking for a budget-friendly wireless earbud that offers excellent sound quality, noise cancellation, and battery life. You get around eight hours of normal use and five with ANC turned on, but with that 40+ hours packed into the case, they’ll last quite a while.

There are a few drawbacks, such as no wireless charging and there is no ability to disable touch controls. At £62.99, though, there’s really very little to complain about as they’re fantastic earbuds.

Sound, ANC and call quality are far better than expected at this price, and the battery life isn’t bad either. What the Capsule 3 Pro show is that SoundPeats are a brand with a ton of potential to be the best in this particular price bracket or higher. If they can consistently produce earbuds of this quality at a reasonable price, it’s exciting to think about what they could achieve with slightly more expensive models. This could potentially shake up the market and challenge other brands to produce high-quality products without charging exorbitant prices.

I rate the SoundPeats Capsule 3 Pro earbuds a brilliant 9/10.
