Seven Challenging Games We’ve Played

Welcome to our list of Seven Challenging Games. Whilst I realise this list contains quite a few SoulsBorne games, this is a list of games that either Ben or I have spent quite a bit of time playing. These games may not be intended to be difficult, but one of us has had a challenge whilst playing them.

So let’s cut to the chase and get the list started. Please note, that the below games are not limited to any certain platform. The list is also in no particular order.

REDO!

So the first game on the list is the recently released REDO!. Ben was given this as a review game, and he is thoroughly enjoying it, as well as the challenge it brings. It’s kinda SoulsLike as it’s inspired by games such as Dark Souls. Since reading Ben’s review for the game, I purchased REDO! on the Nintendo Switch. Whilst I will admit it’s a challenging game, it’s not that hard for a seasoned SoulsBorne Vet like myself.

If you wish to read about REDO! you can do so here in Ben’s REDO! Review for Nintendo Switch.

Demon’s Souls (PS5 Remake)

This game is absolutely amazing. It looks incredibly beautiful on the PlayStation 5. Bluepoint Games have done a fantastic job here. It’s bloody hard, but you know that anyway. It’s most definitely a very rewarding game especially once you’ve felled a boss that you’ve been stuck on for a while. The good news is it’s included with the new PS Plus Extra or Premium tiers for PS5 players!

Sekiro

FromSoftware, a developer’s name that you hear a lot in the “hard game” community. They literally thrive on seeing players suffer, and I love it. FromSoft know their games are ridiculously hard, of course. But they come up with new ways for players to suffer in each game they create. Sekiro is no exception, you play as a Shinobi named Wolf and you are challenged to take revenge in the land of Ashina.

Green Hell

Green Hell has sucked up a lot of my spare time. It’s a bloody brilliant game but is not very forgiving. Simple things such as wading through shallow water could result in your character having leeches attached to them. You then need to inspect your arms and legs and pull the leeches off.

Another example is whilst you’re making your way through the jungle, you could have a panther hunting you. Not only do you need to keep alert for that, but there could also be a high venomous snake in a bush waiting to spring at you and end your life.

Basically, everything wants to kill you. Even your mind, as you lose sanity whilst playing and eventually you go insane and it’s game over unless you keep it on track.

Dead Cells

Ben has put an enormous amount of hours into Dead Cells. I have also played it quite a bit, but nothing on what Ben has played. It’s a fantastic roguelike game that is forever changing, no two runs will be the same.

The developers have added a ton of free content to the game, as well as a few paid DLCs if you wish to expand the game.

The Surge

The Surge is a relatively unknown game developed by Deck13 Interactive (Lords of the Fallen). This is a sci-fi-based ARPG game with similar gameplay to games that FromSoftware have brought us. In this game, players wield an exoskeleton that can be customised throughout the game to enable them to become more powerful to take on bigger enemies. Sounds fun right? That’s because it is.

You can pick The Surge up for quite a low price these days, it also has a sequel aptly named The Surge 2.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne is another FromSoftware game, it’s also as tough as hammering nails into a steel bar. The design of the game is incredible though, the work put into this game is immense, and it shows. You play as a hunter fighting for survival in the gothic victorian inspired Yharnam. The people who lived here are now infected with a blood-borne disease. The game challenges you to find what caused the plague as well as taking on a whole slew of rock-hard enemies.

Good luck, Hunter.

So that’s it for our list of Seven Challenging Games. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading as well as discovered some new games!
