Dream Warrior originated as a submission for Gaming World’s second monthly jam on itch.io in December of 2023, where the theme was “dreams”. Despite having already developed a dream-based jam game earlier in the year, the creator, Robert Hightower, remembered a small interaction between the player character and a drunken uncle in a particular RPG by chance. This became the inspiration for the entry.

Following the conclusion of the jam, the creator continued to update the game, finding enjoyment in both playing and developing it. Subsequently, a build of the game was showcased at ETSU-Con, a local nerd culture convention, where it received unexpectedly positive feedback. Following this, three unrelated individuals suggested that the game be published on Steam. Taking this advice to heart, Robert made substantial updates, ported the game to desktop platforms, and eventually released it on Steam.
