Edifier R1700BT

Edifier R1700BT Review

Welcome to my review of the Edifier R1700BT Active Bookshelf Speakers with Bluetooth. These speakers are made by Edifier and keep up the standards of previous Edifier speakers I have reviewed.

The Hardware

In the box, you will receive both of the speakers (obviously!), the remote control, a 3.5mm RCA cable, an RCA cable, the speaker link cable, and a small user manual. As usual with Edifier, they are very well packaged.

The speakers themselves feel of a very high quality, with a nice wooden finish and removable covers. One thing I will say, and it’s something I say a lot about Edifier, is at the price point you pay (~£130 at the time of writing) they are phenomenal.

Design and Functionality

The looks of the Edifier R1700BT provide a clean aesthetic with sharp edges on each side. By sharp, I don’t mean sharp like a blade, of course. The colour I was provided is the “Brown” option as this is what I requested so they look better on my desk. There are another two colours options to choose from, black, and silver.

Connection and Software

At the back of the right (active) speaker, there is a power switch and connection for the left (passive) speaker. There are a couple of connections on the rear of the speakers that will allow two different inputs into your speakers. These are PC in and Aux in which are analog connections and are your red and white RCA connections for inputs from your PC via a 3.5mm to a 2-pin RCA cable, for example.

Edifier R1700BT

As mentioned above, you can also connect to the speakers via Bluetooth. This allows you to connect up your mobile phone (or other Bluetooth audio device) and play music through the R1700BT. Please note, that the R1700BT only allow one input at a time, for example, you could not have PC in and a Bluetooth connection playing audio through the speakers at the same time.

As these are active bookshelf speakers, there is no need for an app. Everything you need quick access to is on the wireless remote control. Of course, should you wish to adjust the treble or bass, there are some adjustable knobs on the side. There is also a volume adjuster on the side, but you can also adjust the volume on the remote.

Conclusions

The Edifier R1700BT Active Bookshelf Speakers are fantastic. They provide a very nice, clean-sounding audio experience, that also packs a very heavy punch when tweaked to your liking.
