Nacon RIG 400 GEN2 HS review

Welcome to my review of the Nacon RIG 400 GEN2 HS gaming headset. It is compatible with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2!), iOS, Android, and PC.

Basically, anything you have a 3.5mm headphone jack connector on.

The Nacon RIG 400 GEN2 HS is out now and can be purchased for around £35. Continue reading to find out if they’re worth a purchase.

The Hardware

Upon opening the box, you’re greeted with a well-packaged headset from Nacon, as always.

My initial thoughts were the build quality actually felt quite nice seems they aim for a lower hit on the wallet. Kudos to Nacon there.

It’s made of plastic so does feel a bit flexible or that you may break it if you’re not too careful. That’s the nature of the beast and of course if you want a premium product that has say a metal headband, then you pay for that. At the cost of ~£35 this headset feels fantastic. This is a very barebones headset, no RGB, no wireless, just the ability to hear your games at a lower price.

The headset cups have levels of adjustment using a “snap-fit” design which seems to work very well. If you have seen a RIG Gaming headset previously, you will know what I mean.

By ways of controlling the headset we only have an adjustable microphone that flips up toward the headset band, and a volume wheel to increase/decrease volume.

When you flip the microphone up, this also mutes it so you cannot be heard.

Design and Functionality

I quite like the design of the headset with the soft fabric earmuffs. These are also removable so can easily be cleaned or replaced if required.

The headset band has RIG branding on it. There is also subtle branding on the microphone arm which I think looks pretty good.

Inside each cup is the side that the cup should be on, as you can see in my pic further up the page.

The sound quality of the Nacon RIG 400 GEN2 HS is very acceptable for the price range. I found that I could clearly hear audio in games without struggling to hear important or the quieter elements presented to my ears.

The microphone also presents a clear voice that does the job at this price point.

Conclusions

The Nacon RIG 400 GEN2 HS is a pretty comfortable wired headset that gives quite a respectable quality of audio for the price of ~£35 at the time of writing.

It doesn’t do anything fancy, and it keeps the headset down to earth. This helps keep those costs lower which I admire Nacon for.
