SoundPeats have quietly mastered the art of making wireless audio tech that punches way above its price tag, and I’ve been lucky enough to try a good amount of them. This month, I’ve had the opportunity to check out the Soundpeats Air5 Pro, which boasts some rather impressive credentials: Hi-Res Audio, Snapdragon Sound, LDAC, and aptX Lossless support. All of this is packed into a featherweight frame designed for all-day wear. So do they live up to the incredible potential they read like?
Design & Comfort
We’ll start with the case, as I still feel like this is an important aspect. I like textures. If something doesn’t feel nice or even look nice, you’re off to a bad start. And generally, Soundpeats knocks it out of the park when it comes to their cases. I have the Soundpeats Air5, and the case design is similar, just longer. This is down to the addition of ear tips for some nice ear snuggness. The case feels lovely, though, and it is not a fingerprint magnet. It also gives you that satisfying clacking sound when you close the case.
A good plus side to the longer case is the offering of up to 37 hours of battery life. Bonus points also for the 10-minute quick charge, which gives you two hours of playback – an underrated lifesaver when you’re heading out the door with 10% left. What a feature.
As for the earbuds, Soundpeats Air5 Pro has clearly been designed with wearability and comfort in mind. Each earbud clocks in at just 4.8g. This puts them in ultra-light territory without compromising build quality, as you’d expect with the “Air” name. The ergonomic design fits snugly, even during longer listening sessions or more active moments, like commuting or gaming on the go. There’s no ear fatigue here, which is exactly what you want. It makes them super comfortable to wear, even for long sessions.
From an aesthetic standpoint, the design follows SoundPeats’ signature clean-cut profile: minimalist with a matte sheen that resists smudging and fingerprints. They are undeniably Soundpeats in design, with the accent panel down the outside containing the company’s logo. They’ve perfected the design on the last few earbuds, and it’s great to see.
Sound Playback
This is where the Air5 Pro truly flexes. Under the hood, you’re getting a 10mm composite bio-diaphragm driver, engineered to push out dynamic, layered sound. Thanks to Qualcomm’s QCC3091 and the Snapdragon Sound™ platform, playback feels crisp even across more complex tracks – bass is punchy but controlled, mids are full-bodied, and treble carries just the right edge without going tinny.
Want to know how good they are out of the box? Usually, my go-to is to turn headphones/earbuds up to a certain level. With these, I didn’t need to. I listened to a podcast and almost considered turning the volume down, it was that crisp, clear and loud. Perfect, considering I was just leaving work near a busy road. Later, I tried some music, and it’s just as good, although I did turn that up a little. It was impressive to the point that I didn’t turn ANC on for a few days, as I remembered I hadn’t done that. And that, again, makes a hell of a difference. I’m not just impressed, I’ve been blown away.
And as for calls or video meetings, the AI ENC and six-mic array with cVc™ 8.0 offer impressively clear voice isolation, reducing background noise effectively. I’ve had some where I’m told I sound like I’m underwater or echoing. No such problems here.
