Welcome to my review of Super Engine GT Turbo SPEC. This game is brought to us by Josep Monzonis Hernandez (Micro Pico Racers, Rise of Fox Hero) and Eastasiasoft Limited (Hell Well, The Legend of Cyber Cowboy).
The game released on the 14th of May 2025 on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
This game is an arcade racer that uses a sleek cel-shaded 3D style which you won’t really notice.
The Game
Unfortunately, this review is not going to be very nice, but I will keep it as positive as I can.
As aforementioned, this is an arcade racer that has cel-shaded 3D graphics. But to be honest, I didn’t even notice that. The graphics are bright and colourful, but when I hear cel-shaded it immediately makes me think of games like XIII on the GameCube.
So, yeah, um… It’s a game… A single player only game. No split screen, no online.
It’s a bit boring; there’s no engine sounds (that I can hear anyway), the wheels do not move on the cars (seriously, lol), in fact I don’t even think there’s any in-game sounds other than the very repetitive music. The HUD/UI also shows two minimaps. Yes two. There’s also no speedometer, so you have no idea of the actual speeds you’re going.
The car control is super simple, left stick to turn, LB to change through 3 different camera views, RT for acceleration and LT for braking.
I also saw on a Steam review that the game does not support keyboard and mouse (or just keyboard) for controlling the car. Naturally I had to check this out for myself, and, that is false. Either that, or the keyboard controls were added via an update.
So, you can in fact use a keyboard. You use the arrow keys to accelerate, turn, and brake.
The movement of cars also seems quite Janky when in a straight line. It’s like it’s jittering back and forwards somewhat. It also doesn’t matter which car you use, there’s quite a few to choose from but they all seem to perform exactly the same.
It took me 29 minutes to complete the first championship, and the first race of the next. The first 5 of those was trying to work out why it was getting like 15fps. This was because I had connected my controller after launching the game, it seemed.
So, I just quit the game and went back in and that seemed to resolve it. There are also zero graphics settings.
For less than a fiver, would I recommend it? On PC, no. On mobile, maybe if it was less than say £2.
Plus, the championship things don’t seem to change in difficulty. I went from Junior to Novice or whatever it’s called, and it seemed exactly the same.
Conclusions
Super Engine GT Turbo SPEC is not like your typical arcade racer that gives you a great sense of fun.
The trailer made the game look like it could be fun. The rating on the trailer also says, “Mild fantasy violence”. What?
I give Super Engine GT Turbo SPEC a score of 3/10.
You’ll see what I mean above by the wheels not moving in the trailer below.
If you wish to check the game out for yourself, head on over to the Steam Store.
