Anker PowerConf S330 Review

Welcome to our first hardware review. In this review, I bring you my thoughts on the Anker PowerConf S330 USB Speakerphone. Anker is known for making some brilliant hardware for prices that are more affordable on the wallet.

Clear Voice, Clear Speaker

So can the Anker PowerConf S330 speakerphone keep up to the standards we’ve come to love from Anker? Continue reading to find out. You can also check out our previous reviews.

The Hardware

The Anker PowerConf S330 does exactly what it says on the box. It’s a speakerphone for conferencing in online meetings such as those in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and more. I was taken back a bit by how high the quality of this device was when I first unboxed it.

In the box, we have the speakerphone itself, a USB C to USB A adapter, and a quick start guide. The quick start guide, as expected, demonstrates how to connect the device and where to download the software from. Just a side note, you do not have to install the software if you do not want to as the device supports plug and play.

However, it does provide some extra features for the Anker PowerConf S330, such as the Smart Voice Enhancement feature which will help “Eliminate background noise while simultaneously enhancing voices for a professional meeting experience in any environment.

The device provides great sound due to a 1.75″ driver that is paired with 2 passive “bass-radiators” that will add some depth to meetings and other audio such as music, or games should you wish to try this with them. Why not?

The Anker PowerConf S330 can also provide 360 voice coverage thanks to its 4 high-sensitivity microphones that will pick up voices within 3 meters in “super-high clarity”. It’s safe to say that both the speaker itself and the microphone array, are very good.

People on the other end of online calls could hear my voice very clearly, I even tried using this whilst my birds were chirping away in the background, and whilst the person on the other end could hear them, they certainly were not as loud as they could have been without the Smart Voice Enhancements.

Design and Functionality

It’s a speaker that is made for professional places of work, so it won’t look too fancy or have flashy RGB lights. However, I do like the design, it has a rather minimalistic layout with easily accessible capacitive buttons as you can see on the image above.

I quite like the design, sleek and professional looking.

The unit feels solid with a nice material mesh design on the top, similar to that of a Google Nest Mini if you’re familiar with those. The USB C cable that is fitted to the unit has a good feel to it, it feels like a high-quality USB cable but does not have any braiding.

Plus, the connection cable can conveniently be wrapped back around the base of the unit and will be held in place by a magnet that is underneath. This will help keep it all tidy, especially for a mobile user who would use this with their laptop and then chuck it in their bag.

Connection and Software

The connection is simple. You use either the USB C connector that is already on the cable of the Anker PowerConf S330 or you can convert this to USB A using a provided, my Windows laptop automatically switched to the speaker for both audio output and the default communications device.

One thing I was surprised about was for a laugh. I connected the USB C connection to my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. I then decided to call Ben on WhatsApp just to see if it worked.

It did! the Anker site does state that it is not compatible with mobile phones or tablets. This could be because of the huge variety of devices in the “smart” marketplace. It’s easier to state it’s incompatible and not receive a ton of support emails.

I also tried this device on my PlayStation 5 and it started to output the sound from the console via the USB C port on the front. The PS5 basically thought I had plugged in a headset. Pretty cool, but not what this is intended for.

The AnkerWork software is good, it allows you to fine-tune things and get features more out of your device. Such features are the aforementioned “Smart Voice Enhancement” which will help eliminate those pesky background conversations going on during meetings.

Conclusions

Anker kindly offered to send this out to me so I could review it. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The Anker PowerConf S330 is a very reasonable price of £69.99 RRP. It can be had for anywhere as low as £50 on Amazon, for example.

My place of employment was also very impressed with this device. We are looking to possibly buy some for our smaller meeting rooms onsite.

I give the Anker PowerConf S330 a score of 8/10.
