EasySMX X05

EasySMX X05 Controller Review

Welcome to my review of the EasySMX X05 controller. I must say, this is the first time I had heard of EasySMX. But I am glad they reached out to us to offer us the X05 for review.

The controller comes in three colour options. Oyster white, Lime, and Black. For the purpose of this review, I was sent the lime option. It looks absolutely beautiful in my humble opinion.

Although, to be fair, you will not go wrong with the other colour options as they all look pretty good. The X05 is compatible with Windows 7 and newer, iOS, Android, and the Nintendo Switch family of consoles.

The Hardware

I fell in love with this controller on first sight. The Lime colourway is absolutely smashing and is super bright, I love it. The controller feels really nice in your hands, and actually does not feel cheap.

The buttons on the controller feel nice too, especially the D-PAD as that provides great control whilst being super quiet. Not like those annoying Xbox Series controllers with their clicky D-PAD.

EasySMX X05

This is the first time I have experienced Hall Effect Sensors on the sticks and triggers. Personally, I can’t see what the fuss is about. Don’t get me wrong, it feels smoother and a bit more responsive, but I’ve never had a gripe about previous controllers that I’ve used.

Of course, this is not against EasySMX at all, that’s just my opinion in general. I guess they’re built more for longevity and to prevent things like Stick Drift, which I have (thus far) not experienced with any of my controllers.

The EasySMX X05 offers three different ways of connecting to your platform of choice. There is a provided 2.4Ghz wireless adapter, Bluetooth, or wired. This is pretty cool as you can easily switch between the three modes meaning you could have Bluetooth hooked up to your phone for gaming whilst in Samsung Dex, for example. You could then also have it connected to your Switch as a wired controller, and your PC using the 2.4Ghz adapter. Neat. Switching modes is literally as simple as changing the toggle on the back of the controller to your desired setting.

RGB makes things better, apparently!

The controller also offers some stylish RGB effects. With the press of a couple of buttons in a combo, we can switch between five diverse lighting modes that offer many different colour combinations. In my testing, I did find that having the RGB lights “on” drastically shortened my controller’s battery life. It still offered a good amount of battery life, with approximately 4 hours with the lights on. But with the lights off I reckon I got closer to 8 hours, maybe more. The 750mAh battery is charged via the USB-C port, I love that almost everything is now USB-C… It makes life so much easier.

The EasySMX X05 has a ceramic chip antenna. What this means is that it will help keep a solid connection whilst offering minimal latency whilst playing with the wireless mode. Of course, this doesn’t matter if you’re wired in. For those of you who like to use the rumble in a controller, the X05 has five-level adjustable vibration motors inside. The different levels felt pretty good in my hands especially whilst playing something like a racing game or shooter, for example.

EasySMX X05
Look how beautiful the colourway is!

I would say that this controller feels very similar to the Nintendo Switch Pro controller, maybe a little lighter. But size wise it feels very similar, which is great as that controller has a great feel to it, just like the EasySMX X05.

Conclusions

I initially had my doubts about the EasySMX X05 controller. At first, I thought that the controller would feel cheap and tacky especially seems it only costs £24 and has hall-effect sticks and triggers, RGB lighting, and numerous compatible platforms.

I can say with my head held highly, that I was wrong. This controller is actually a fantastic bit of kit, and I cannot fault it when using it. I would say that the only flaw seems to be that when the RGB lights are enabled, the battery life isn’t too good. However, disabling the RGB lights around the thumb sticks seems to add a lot more life into a single charge.

I give the EasySMX X05 a score of 9/10.

The only thing that stopped it from getting a 10/10 was the battery life when using RGB. I felt that if a slightly bigger battery was inside it would have nailed that high score. Either way it’s a great bit of kit for the price! To read more about this controller, please visit the official website.
