Welcome to my review of the Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2 Bluetooth earbuds. If you’re a regular here, you’ll know we have reviewed a fair few pieces of hardware from Edifier… I must add they have become one of my favourite audio hardware manufacturers due to their performance for the price.
The Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2 are no different, they pack a huge punch in a very small package for a pretty friendly bump on your wallet.
Heavy Hitters in a Small Package.
Some may say that £129.99 MSRP is a lot of money, but compare that to the Apple Airpods Pro Gen 2… They’re around £250 MSRP. That’s nearly double the price of the earbuds, but are they worth nearly double? Probably not, no.
For example, the NeoBuds Pro 2 give us a lot of features for the price point. Some of the key features are below:
- USB-C charging
- Hi-Res Audio support
- Spatial Audio (which is class)
- Bluetooth V5.3
- A2DP, AVRCP, and HFP Bluetooth Protocol support
- LDAC, LHDC, SBC, and AAC Audio Coding support
- An IP rating of IP54 which provides limited water resistance and dust proofing.
- Up to 5.5 hours of play time for the earbuds with no ANC enabled, 4 with it on.
- The charging case provides an additional 16.5 hours with no ANC enabled, 12 with it on.
- The case light colour can be customised in the mobile app
So yeah, as you can see you get quite a bit for the price. Also, inside of the nicely presented box is a few leaflets, quick start, warranty, the usual. There are also seven pairs of ear tips in total, so you have a very high chance of finding the perfect fit for your ears.
Not only that but we get a nice little carry bag which Edifier seem to provide with a lot of their earbuds, which is very much welcomed… You don’t see Apple doing that for nearly twice the price! They are also available in two colours, black and ivory. For the purpose of this review I was kindly sent a black pair.
Basically, for the money, they are the best earbuds I have used. Have I used better? Probably. Did they cost more than £129.99? Definitely. Would I use them over the NeoBuds Pro 2 if I had the choice, no. I absolutely love these buds.
Design and Functionality
I think I’ve said this before, and I will more than likely say it again in the future. These earbuds have a typical design to them, but, what more can manufacturers do without making them look absolutely ridiculous or possibly very uncomfortable?
There has been some tweaks on the Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2 over the first. It could just be me, but the case with the earbuds inside feels a bit little than the NBP1. They also seem a little flatter which is great because that means I can wear one of them under my helmet whilst riding my motorbike. Don’t worry, I don’t have it turned up loud plus I have ANC disabled so I can still hear pretty much everything going on.
Speaking of ANC, these earbuds block out a ton of noise. For example, I was hoovering whilst wearing both of the earbuds. I genuinely could not hear my hoover, the only reason I knew it was on was because of the lights on the front. Otherwise I wouldn’t have had a clue.
The other thing about ANC, whilst wearing the buds in the office, I only wear one. This is for a number of reasons, such as people coming up asking questions, the fire alarm may be going off, whatever, you know what I mean. I could not enabled active noise cancellation with just one earbud out of the case.
I have used other earbuds in the past which allow you to do this. However, I am not marking the score down on them for this, just a little note really. It didn’t cause me any bother but if it does with you, you can take the other bud out of the case, leave it on your desk with the wear sensor pointing upwards and away you go.
Connection and Software
Well, if you hadn’t guessed by now, these are Bluetooth earbuds. They work great on Apple iOS, Google Android, PC, Steam Deck, laptops, anything with Bluetooth really.
Should you connect them to your phone you can download the free Edifier Connect App (iOS or Google Play Store only). This helps you tweak things such as the colour of the light on the case, your equaliser settings, firmware updates, you get the idea.
The app works well, I have had no issues or bugs whilst using it. The only thing I will say is when it sends me notifications say overnight, I had no clue what it says because the notifications are in Chinese (I think).
Conclusions
If you have read this far and haven’t ran off to buy yourself a pair yet, then all I can say is what the hell are you waiting for? Go ahead, treat yourself. Before you do, head on over to read some of our other reviews.
I score the Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2 a well deserved 10/10.
