Welcome to my review of the JOBY Wavo Pod microphone. This is the latest piece of hardware from a company that is new on my radar, JOBY. They sell quite a lot of hardware ranging from microphones, tripods, lights, and more.

So how well does the JOBY Wavo Pod perform? Continue reading to find out. Once you’re done you can also check out our previous hardware reviews.
The Hardware
In the box, we get the JOBY Wavo Pod microphone itself, a detachable pop filter, two USB cables, and a quick start guide.
The microphone is plug-and-play. This means as soon as you plug the device into your computer, it will turn on and be recognised as a microphone. I like it when things are this simple. Why? because it means almost anyone can use the hardware without the requirement of any technological background, as such.
There is a volume knob and a pattern button on the front of the device. This gives the user easy control over the volume of their earphones that are plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom, more about this is below. Pressing the knob performs a mute function on the microphone and it’ll turn the light red.
The Wavo Pod knob is also a multifunctional knob. It gives you control over the volume level of your headset or mic gain. If you long-press the mute button and the light goes purple, that will control the adjustment for Gain. Long pressing it again to turn the light blue will let you control your headphone volume.
The pattern button allows you to change the microphone mode. There are two choices, omnidirectional and cardioid. Omnidirectional means the microphone will listen for voices in all directions. Cardioid means it records virtually just in front of the microphone. In this example, it would be the streamer who is sitting in front of the device.
Key Features:
- High-quality 24bit/48kHz audio for laptops / most USB-C devices
- Omnidirectional and directional recording patterns
- Built-in volume, mute, gain controls. Includes headphone port
- Pop filter accessory included for clean broadcast voice
- Designed to work seamlessly with existing JOBY supports / mounts
Design and Functionality
I quite like the design of the JOBY Wavo Pod. The striking red accents around the microphone and on the included pop filter are very nice. Great choice.
The microphone and included stand are relatively small in size, similar to that of the Blue Yeti Nano in my opinion.
On the bottom of the Wavo Pod, there is also a USB C port (more below), and a latency-free 3.5mm headphone jack to plug in your favourite headphones or headset.
Finally, on the bottom of the device, we have a 3/8″ tripod mounting point, which is covered by a 5/8″ tripod adapter. On each side of the JOBY Wavo Pod, there are some 1/4″ mounting points that are compatible with JOBY’s range of accessories.
In my testing, the JOBY Wavo Pod performed very well. In fact, I think it actually outperforms my Blue Yeti Nano. The 3.5mm audio jack works flawlessly and the fact the microphone comes with two different USB cables means that people on a variety of hardware will be able to use it out of the box without the need for any adapters for say USB C to USB A.
Connection and Software
Connection is very simple, on the bottom of the Joby we have a USB C port. As mentioned above we have two USB cables provided with the JOBY Wavo Pod. One is USB C to USB C, the other is USB C to USB A. So you have a couple of different options for connectivity to your devices.
Software-wise, I couldn’t actually find any software for the device. But this wasn’t a huge bother because you can easily configure microphones in Windows 10 and 11.
Conclusions
Considering the JOBY Wavo Pod costs less than £90 at the time of writing, it’s an excellent addition to any budding content creator’s setup. I love that it includes a pop filter and a couple of different types of USB cables.
