Tronsmart T7 Portable Outdoor Speaker Review

The past few weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of playing around with two speakers, both from Tronsmart. The Tronsmart T7 speaker and the Tronsmart Bang Mini Portable Party Speaker. With the Tronsmart T7 Portable Outdoor Speaker, there are some significant differences that make this a viable alternative to others available, particularly at this price range.

Tronsmart T7 Speaker is Another Hefty Boi

It’s all about portability with these speakers, and this is a hefty little boi. I’d say it’s considerably more portable than the Bang Mini, though. It’s the right size to fit in the drink-holder side pockets of my backpack, which is ideal, even if it does weigh down one side more than the other. But the fact that it can fit there makes it super portable, and if you have a full drink bottle on the other side, it should equal out both sides. Now, let’s get onto the review!

The Hardware

Now, the Tronsmart T7 speaker is a little bit different to the Tronsmart Mini Bang. For a start, it has an IPX7 waterproof rating, meaning it can be submerged in water – up to one meter for 30 minutes. Which makes this idea for use outdoors or even, as it’s been used in my house, as a shower speaker. It’s a 30W surround sound speaker with a full 360° sound field.

The T7 also looks a lot more like a portable outdoor speaker, with a cylindrical shape and tough black plastic body. The whole thing feels pretty durable, although I’m not one for testing the durability of things. Could it take a few drops? It certainly feels like it’s well-built enough to handle them. But I’m not going to test that out.

On the top of the speaker, there’s a volume dial with some lovely RGB lighting. It has a nice little click to it which is weirdly enjoyable. And if RGB lighting isn’t your thing, then a single click on the power button turns them on or off. They can have quite an impact on battery life, so depending on how long you want to use the speaker should depend on whether you keep them on or off.

Talking of RGB lighting, it has 4 light movement modes to choose from. RGB, breathing, beat-driven, and circling. Or, if you value battery life, turn it off. But it does look pretty damn cool with the lights on. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made.

Like with the Bang Mini, the buttons are rubberised, and the ports are hidden behind a rubber tab. There’s USB-C and a microSD slot. No 3.5mm port, so it’s Bluetooth only. Which isn’t a bad thing, as this is all about being super portable for use almost anywhere.

There’s also a mic built in for those times that someone rudely disturbs your music listening with a phone call.

Design and Functionality

In my humble opinion, this is a good-looking speaker. The look is preferable to the Bang Mini, and I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the look of that. But this just looks super portable, which it is. The whole look is beautiful for a speaker. the only part that slightly ruins that is the rubber, but that’s a small price to pay for that IPX7 waterproof rating, so it’s not a problem.

It also has a really cool feature where you can pair it with another T7 speaker to work in stereo with each other. I’ve not been able to test that to see how well it works, but that’s still a cool feature so that you can get some extra thumping beats.

Connection and Software

The 7T speaker is super easy to connect via Bluetooth, and you get a lovely little chime to indicate it’s connected.

There’s also an app, which is where there’s a major difference with the Bang Mini. The app isn’t super necessary but is useful if you want to tweak the equaliser to your liking. Just download the Tronsmart app, which then allows you to customise using pre-set EQ modes, or you can manually control the EQ to adjust it however you like. This works okay. It does what you’d expect. But just remember that you are still limited to the overall abilities of the speaker. Still, being able to do this is pretty neat and allows you to adjust according to your music tastes. Can’t complain about that!

Conclusions

Overall, I’m more impressed with the Tronsmart T7 than I was with the Bang Mini, and I liked that speaker too. The added portability adds a lot, and being able to adjust the EQ to your liking via an app is an added bonus, especially since the app isn’t necessary to actually use the speaker. It sounds impressive at the mid-volume range, which itself is actually loud enough for a small outdoor gathering without being too offensive. At a price range of £60 (although currently available on Amazon for £50), it’s great value. It sounds good, looks good, is waterproof, and it should provide you with plenty of entertainment for your ears. And for a portable speaker, isn’t that all you want?

I rate the Tronsmart T7 Speaker a well-deserved 9/10. You just can’t argue with this quality at that price point.
