Extremely Powerful Capybaras

Extremely Powerful Capybaras Review

Welcome to my review of Extremely Powerful Capybaras. I know I know… I saw that name and thought “what the hell?!”… Then I watched the trailer… Give me some of that was my instant thought. This game is brought to us by developers Studio Bravarda and publishers Logoi Games & PM Studios.

The game is due to launch on December 5th 2023 on PC. In some notes I was given, it’s being compared as a cross of the gameplay of Vampire Survivors and the graphics Kingdom Rush. I most definitely see that.

After you’re done reading this review, why not check out some of our other reviews?

The Game

I you hadn’t guessed by now; we play as a Capybara in this game. Not your typical hero, but that’s what makes this game feel like it stands out in the crowd a bit more. That plus Capybaras are bloody adorable and you will never change my mind on that.

The game can be played solo or with up to a total of four people local or online co-op.

To start with, we get the choice of four classes of Capybara hero. The warrior, the bard, the assassin, and the druid. Further into the game you can unlock two more classes, a mage, and another which I will not lie, I have not unlocked, yet.

As mentioned, it has gameplay similar to that of games like Vampire Survivors and Brotato. This is not a bad thing. Those are two fantastic games and if you enjoy them, I can guarantee you that you’ll enjoy Extremely Powerful Capybaras.

Extremely Powerful Capybaras
It starts off nice and gentle

It has that old school twin stick control scheme which gives you simple controls to take down the hordes of monsters heading your way. As you kill monsters, they can drop a variety of items. Such items are watermelons which heal you, experience point orbs, and further into your run, golden coins that you can use to upgrade powers and abilities.

I must add, it’s not a twin stick game though it’s more like a single stick as you move around using the left thumbstick and the game auto aims for you.

Keep On Fighting!

There’s an absolute boatload of different weapons, powers, and abilities you can use during your run. One key point I do like about this game is a run is set to a timer of fifteen minutes, then the end of arena boss will spawn.

Each time you advance a level you get the choice of four weapons or abilities to add to your total of 10 empty slots. Of course, fill the slots, you cannot add any additional weapons/abilities. However, you can continue up to level forty and power up you’re unlocked weapons/abilities up to level 5 per slot.

As you level up, more and more monsters will spawn into the level until you look like you’re going to be swamped by them. Just like the below screenshot. I can promise you this looks worse than it actually is. Especially if you’ve picked the right gear on the way up.

Extremely Powerful Capybaras
This is okay. I promise.

Once you hit level forty, it’s a case of surviving until the timer hits zero, or… dying. If you should survive the entire fifteen minutes, an arena boss will spawn. I’ve actually found the three arena bosses easier than the main arena runs up to them. However, it’s still quite a nice little battle to finish off your hectic fifteen minutes.

If you’re finding the runs a bit easy once you’ve powered up your classes, you can enable modifiers that make the runs more difficult. But naturally, with greater difficulty comes greater rewards.

Conclusions

Extremely Powerful Capybaras is a fantastic game. It has a ridiculous name, some adorable creatures, not so adorable monsters, and great gameplay. I highly recommend you check it out.

As mentioned, it has some issues such as some severe frame drops on my PC (RTX 3070) and it only seems to accept up to 1080p resolution. Hopefully these will be fixed in a day one patch or even a patch in the near future, if so, my score will definitely be higher.

The odd thing is the game runs better on my Steam Deck OLED model than my PC … Which doesn’t bother me in the slightest as this is a perfect game for the Steam Deck. I have selected “Unknown” for the Steam Deck compatibility up top as at the time of writing the game does not have a rating… But it’s worked fine for me!

If you want to learn more about the game, you can visit the Steam page for it. You can also add it to your wishlist for when it launches on December 5th, 2023.

I score Extremely Powerful Capybaras a 8/10
